About The Western Lensman

The Western Lensman began as Ouray Magazine, a local storytelling project passionately dedicated to capturing the essence of life in Ouray County. Driven by a commitment to authentic, heartfelt storytelling and striking photography, it soon became clear that the West's stories extended far beyond a single county's borders.

Economic challenges and valuable feedback from regional and national brands made it clear: for this magazine to thrive, it had to expand its horizons.

Today, The Western Lensman captures the spirit of the American West across a broader canvas—from the rugged mountains and historic mining towns of Colorado, through the vast deserts and canyons of Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico to the rich cultures of the Ute and Navajo nations.

But The Western Lensman is more than a magazine. It's a journey guided by professional photographer and storyteller, Markus Van Meter, whose vision combines compelling human-interest narratives with visual artistry. Each story is told through words and images that inspire, inform, and educate.

A unique aspect of The Western Lensman is the educational insight provided with each photograph, revealing the techniques, camera settings, and creative process behind every shot. These photographic insights aim to inspire the next generation of visual storytellers, equipping readers with practical knowledge and creative inspiration.

The Western Lensman is dedicated to authenticity, preserving the heritage of the American West, and inspiring both readers and photographers to experience and document the remarkable stories that surround us every day.
