Marie Scott: Colorado’s Legendary Cattle Queen
Marie “Bartley” Scott (1896–1979) holds a storied place in Colorado’s ranching history as one of the state’s most formidable landowners and cattlewomen. By the mid-20th century, she had amassed an estimated 100,000 acres of ranchland across Ouray, San Miguel, and Montrose counties – with holdings stretching from her hometown of Ridgway clear into southeastern Utah.
